15" Rally II on 1970
Hi everyone. I was thinking about pulling the original JT wheels off my Judge and just keeping them for shows and that sort of thing, and picking up a set of 15" Rally II wheels. I see they are available in the aftermarket in 15x7 and 15x8 and 15x10. I think the 10" wheel would be too big, but would you go with a 7" or 8" wheel? Would there be any clearance issues?

I would think you would be fine with the 7" or 8" wheel. I've run 15x7's on my 70 for many years with a 245/60/15 tire. I don't think the 8" wheel would be a bad idea either just depends what size tire you want to run. If you going to run a 70 series tire stick with the 7" but if you want to run a 60 series tire you could go with the 8" wheel as well. Just make sure the back spacing is proportionate to the 7". I think the 7 is 4.5 or 4.75, I would need to double check to be sure.

Unless you're gonna go with something really big for tires, I'd stay with 15x7- then you can use factory wheels- a lot cheaper than getting new repros.
Here's a picture of my T-37 (when it belonged to b-man) with 15X7 Rallys and 245/60/15 on the front and 275/60/15 on the rear. Plenty of room all around. '70-'72 have huge wheel wells.

thanks guys! I saw an ad on eBay for a set of 15x6 Rally IIs. I didn't even know they made that size wheel, but I will look for the 15x7.

15X6 Rally IIs were big car only. Bolt circle is incorrect (5") for an A, F or G-body.

I thought the 77-79 Catalina & Bonneville Rally II's were 15" x 6" with a 4 3/4" bolt circle. We pulled a set off of a 78 Cat at a local LKQ last year for next to nothing. |

My son has a '77 Bonnie with the 5" bolt circle.
Also, I believe they did make a 15X6 Rally II with the 4 3/4" bolt circle.

Most '70's G body rally's were 15X7. Same bolt pattern.

The 15X6 inch rim is a std. rim for use on all cars. The 15X7's were for the performance cars, & were the optional rim. Didn't get 15X8 until you got the T/A with the 8" snowflakes. No 15X8 inch Ralley II's unless made that way by the aftermarket.

Not all rims clear the disk brakes.

I have aftermarket rallies with a 4 inch backspace which kinda limits tire sizes.
Stock rallies were 4.25 back space. on the first pic and last are pontiac 15x7 ralies the two middle4 inch backspace pics are aftermarket 15x9 and 15x7 with 4 inch backspace. Last edited by post toastie; 12-28-2015 at 12:30 AM. |
