1975 Trans Am Restoration
Here I go again! New project 1975 Trans Am 400 4 speed (numbers matching) Sterling Silver standard interior (Black) 46xxx original miles 99.5% rust free last on the road in 1996. The restoration officially starts Monday the 16th May, 2016.

Update #1
Lifted car so I could cut out and remove old exhaust. Removed rear sway bar. Pulled engine and transmission (pressure washed both). Started cleaning the fire wall and tunnel area. Looks really good once cleaned up. I will just clean the whole bottom of the car and bring back the original look like it left the factory with. Looks like no painting the bottom will be required like I had to on my 74.

Been using the EVAPO-RUST on anything and everything with rust associated with it. Talk about save time with this stuff. Did drive shaft, leaf spring axle mount plates and front leaf spring mount plates. Primed and painted the plates and left the drive shaft bare for right now. Painted the axle tubes and also added the blue inspection marks. Not sure why the last few pictures are rotated?

Drive shaft after sitting overnight. Didn't even remove the yellow stripes.

Finishing up on the rear end. Added the orange G and the yellow and white marks. Have a question about the color of the leaf springs. After I soaked them the evapo-rust and cleaned them up the color appears to be a dark gray. Is this the correct color for the 75 leaf springs? Hope someone will chime in on it. I thought they would of been steal shade.

Leaf springs
I believe they were left natural by Pontiac but I always re-spray these in cast iron gray which I think looks very nice. I never cared for them when some guys paint them black. Keep up the nice work!

Evaporust is some good stuff, but it is expensive, and doesn't last long if you soak fairly dirty parts. I've been buying it in the 5 gal bucket quantity.

I would think going to any GM body shop & they will have those cage nuts as we always kept them in our parts dept. & at the body shop because they fit a lot of thing besides the shocks. You may even find them at Lowes because they carry a lot of auto nuts & bolts in there shelves.
