switched to radials - results
Went out today with the new 315/60 MT ET street radial pros. Switched from Hoosier slicks with tubes that where close to the same size of the 315's. This is a stock suspension car with coil overs in the back and stock shocks on the front. I did move the lower trailing arm 3/4" lower on the rear and loosed the rebound 3 clicks and tighten the comp. 2 clicks. I started at 17 psi hot and left it there all day. Made 6 passes and the 60's where between 1.354 and 1.348. I am happy with that. I am a fan of these tires now.
I ended up loosing in the semi's in 10.0 Index. Bad light and went 9.99. |

I switched and every aspect was as good or better than bias. Bias tires for many are becoming a thing of the past.

Nice to hear, your results were better than mine today! 1st time out this year, track seemed decent, but after making shock adjustments and 3 runs, spun each time with the 26x10 radial. Running 19psi and looks like as the front end runs out of travel, the tire spins 1 or 2 rotations, then hooks again as the front end starts coming back down.
I struggled some last year while switching to the radial, but was able to run off some solid 1.40 launches late in the season. Track was busy today so tough to get runs in... going to try a little more tire psi and continue to tighten the front shocks, and/or put a 28" tire back on, which should help... The radials seem more consistent then the slicks when they where new. I have never had 60's that tight in the same day. The old tires where 3 years old and 60's varied from 1.46 to 1.36 thus the reason for new tires.
The handling felt the same as slicks. Did notice any speed increase at all. Mabey because I added radial to the front that are about 12lbs a tire heavier. I did notice the car reacts faster now. What should have .015 lights ended up being .00 lights. Car weighs 3400 lbs and launch with a transbrake at 3400 rpms. All day the car picked the wheels up 1' and carried them out 30'. We will see what happens in the summer when the track gets hotter. |

Radials are fast but if the track is sketchy they are junk and most all the tracks we run on are sketchy...they also suck on the street. Having said that a well prepped track and a radial are a thing of beauty...

Ran a Tuesday night gamblers race last night. Not much track prep and ran with a ton of street cars. So, was not the best prepped track never is on a Tuesday or Friday night.
Tires where great. 1.344, 1.348 and 1.342 60's. Would have been better if I could have won first round. Love these radials. I haven't played with pressure. Set them at 17psi and have been working great so just left it there. |

Mike, run them up in pressure. Try 18 or 19. I started at 17 and kept going up. Car 60ft best at 19.5lbs. I have run up to 21 on a good prepped track.
You have to be careful with lower pressures in a radial, the tire will ball up and basically try to run over itself.
