Default 1974 Formula tire size help.

In less than a week my car goes in for pa safety inspection, new pypes exhaust, new poly suspension kit and new tires sized for my new 17" honeycombs. I need quick advice on what tire size works well with a stock suspension? Stock size diameter was 27.5". I'd like to stay with that to keep my speedo as close to stock rev's unless someone knows the right speedo gear I can swap to bring it back to correct speed. Any advice on the best option for a basiclly stock suspension 74, for now until I upgrade that. Thanks in advance.

Some sizes I'm viewing close to 27.5"

245/55/17 -27.6"
255/50/17 -27"

I'm open to suggestions as well from the guys that are running the repro Honeycombs. I'd drop tire diameter size if an option to recalibrate the speedo was available.

You probably are best off with the 255/50/17 for your stock height and availability of tires

I went with 275/40's myself, but my car sits quite a bit lower than stock

I ordered two 255/50/17 and the garage is going to try them on the front end. They used the Percy's tool and found that only 225/45/17 is the size. I forget exactly what they said. Totally off the subject and if I have to I will post a new question, but for my 1974 Formula with RTS; what size rear sway bar? 3/4 or 7/8? I forget exact size but was leaning towards 7/8. I need to get new poly bushings for it.

That rear bar would be 3/4" (or smaller) . . . definitely NOT 7/8"

Unless it has the handling package, the rear bar is 5/8".

Yes it is RTS. The bar when measured is slightly larger than 3/4 and less than 7/8. Thanks for the help.

R.T.S. should have been standard on the Formulas. Did your car come with 15" wheels? 13/16" is the Trans Am bar.

Yes my car had 15" rally II's. I removed them shortly after buying it in 96' and replaced with Honeycombs.

Yes, 15" rally II from the factory. My car had 82k when I bought it and was stock down to plugs and wires. I was young and did a tune up and scrapped all that, the original alternator, exhaust, full size rally II spare tire, belts and hoses. My keys even had the hunks of metal still in the keyring holes. My original Rally II made their way onto my 68 LeMans and were sold on that car. My car appears to have been optioned out compare to a base formula.
