Default Doug's headers and 76 Trans am

Hi All: What to talk to anyone who is running Round port Doug's Headers (D-581) on a 76 Trans am with Standard tranny.

What to know how they fit?

Any issues?

Ground Clearance?

These will be going on a 455 with #197 round port heads..

My other option will be to go with Ram Air Manifolds 2.45" RM-4-OS

Thanks for your input.

I also want to know what is the best round port hedder to use on a 75 T/A
455 with 72 455 H.O. 7F6 round ports and a 4 speed trans.
Is it still possible to use the reverse lock out rod with round port hedders?
I can use it with the D ports that are on the car now.

I'd like to stay with tube hedders instead of manifolds
The Dougs look good to me too but I havent seen any in person.
The Hooker Super Comps look to hang down pretty far in photos
is there any advantage or disadvantage to using Dougs vs. Hooker vs. Heddman?

From personal experience I wouldn't go with long tubes. I have the Hooker Headers and from what I understand RAM AIR manifolds flow just as good. I have a 76 and there just isn't very much room for long tubes. Here are some things you will have to worry about:
Clutch Linkage-complete modification...forget about hydraulic
Starter clearance-nuf said
Reverse Lockout-I hear it's possible to still have it (I don't)
Oil Filter-there is a special size I can't remember it off the top of my head. You may even need a different filter housing.

I love the look and sound of headers but if I could have gotten some shorties to do the trick I would have.

Keep in mind I have the Hooker Headers. There is plenty more info on this in the Exhaust Tech Forum.

Good Luck

Thanks.. The Hookers Hustlers seem to fit really well on my friends 78 T/A.. The smaller oil filter is the same one used in my 2000 GMC 6 liter engine..

Have the small mini starter.. Reverse lockout has to be removed.
