I haven't personally installed one on a 1st gen vert, but I've seen the Pypes SGF70 on a convertable. It tends to have a little more flexability with the "X" design because the pipes in and out of the X can be manipulated in such a way that you're able to tuck it up pretty much as tight as needed, and the X can be moved forward or backward depending on how you trim the pipes.
The H system is a little less forgiving in that regard.
I do like the Thrush/Dynomax system though, for the price it's really hard to beat, fits good and sounds good.
