Maiden Voyage
Finally got the chance to drive the Firebird to its first official outing to the Eyes on Design show at the Edsel & Eleanor Ford Mansion along Lake St. Claire east of Detroit proper. The headlight switch dimmer fried and made a stink (no fire thank goodness!!!) and wouldn't allow the courtesy lamps and dash lights to turn off, but removed the bulbs and the fuse to make sure it wouldn't try to burn up again. The bird ran great on such a hot day (95* on the way home). the temp gauge never got above the 180* area on the freeway at 65 mph and would drop at slower speeds (in the city), so I'm very happy with the cooling system. Fuel mileage was 14.5 (+) mpg, so not bad for a big pig. My SD455 TA got the same, so not surprised since they both have 3.42 gears.
So, I have to replace the headlight switch and get to working on repainting the honeycombs next, as well as a few other little things. It's so great to be driving the HO after the long journey since it came home that cold winter day!
