Ok, so I think maybe the air cleaner intake hose went through three variations - hairy hose with plastic liner inside, hairy hose with no liner but an outside coating that made it air tight and less hairy, and then the vinyl hose. I have a an original hairy hose and an NOS hairy hose and they are identical, I also recently acquired a later model hose that is GM NOS but too long and only sort of hairy, and then of course we are all familiar with the more recent NOS vinyl hoses. I recently bought a Sort of Hairy hose that was longer than the '73 - '74 models, but which I think is the correct material for a later application other than the length. MPD and I were able to shorten it today for a TA application and am pretty jacked up at how it came out and looks.

Below are a few pictures that show a NOS early short hairy hose, a used early short hairy hose, a later model sort of hairy hose that is too long, and a later model sort of hairy hose that used to be too long but isn't any more.
