The only way to get a good estimate on classic Pontiac production numbers down to model, trim, motor, options, etc is for Jim Mattison to run his microfilm records through a conversion process, and through to an endpoint of a database.

Maybe PHS is working on a project already however I suspect there is not much to gain (financially) from such, other than telling you your car is one of "X" when you order your PHS. Work to do this would include scanning millions of microfilms and converting those to a digital format. Each one of these would have to be "OCR'ed" or made searchable through software, then these flat files manipulated into a database somehow. Not cheap to do as we know here at work!

The PHS request form has a checkbox asking if you own the car, or are looking to purchase it. If PHS kept a record of which VIN's where requested (I'm sure they do ), that would be the ultimate database or registry of Pontiacs left on the road!
