It's a beautiful restoration for sure. We may see a record price for this one.

blue71ta 04-29-2024 10:35 PM

I'm going to guess $50K hammer price

J GLASGO 04-30-2024 06:47 AM

Going to be way north of 50000

Neat car assuming it’s not a 4 speed conversion of course.. someone added long branch manifolds, the HO was available with AC and it was available with manual transmission (3 or 4) but it wasn’t available with both AC and manual.

This one maybe?

Hi John... Since I know the owner, I've followed the restoration of this car pretty closely on Facebook. It is a real deal triple black SJ 428/370 4-speed with factory original leather interior. The long branch exhaust manifolds were installed at the time of that photo, but were never ran and have since been replaced with the originals for correctness. Although I haven't seen the car in person, it looks stunning in the photos that I have seen... Grant

Odd tidbit about 69 GP exhaust, unlike the GTO which had exhaust selection controlled by a combination of engine determining head pipes (2 1/4” on RA and RA4 engines, 2” on others), mufflers the same on all engines and tailpipes (2 1/4” no resonators on Manual trans and 2” with resonators on automatics) determined by transmission.

The 69 GP exhaust was determined solely by engine. 400-265, 400-350 and 428 370 all had the identical 2” system with resonators but the HO had its own system with 2 1/4 head pipes, the same mufflers and 2 1/4” tailpipes without resonators..

So oddly a 428 HO automatic GP would have big tailpipes and no resonators but a RA4 automatic GTO would have the skinny pipes with resonators, contrary to what you would have expected given the market image of a GP versus a GTO.

Btw, the various tailpipes and resonators interchange between the GP and GTO but mufflers were different as were the headpipes.

$100k+ all day

It will be an interesting auction. It seems like the market in general is tanking this year. Very few sales, dealers cutting prices. There definitely is a softening of the “normal” buyer range (say $50k or less) but so far the higher priced stuff has held up from what I’ve seen.

I guess it’s a mix of higher interest rates, election year jitters and simply lower consumer confidence in the economy in general.

Do you think there may be one other factor, could we finally be starting to see the aging out of some of the buyers and the group of buyers as a whole starting to shrink?

428ho4spd 05-01-2024 11:25 AM

Real '69 428 4-speed GP's with matching numbers rarely come up for sale that aren't complete rust bucket projects. To find any GP properly restored to this level is very rare. Nicely optioned in triple black with factory leather interior, this car is pretty special. This car should pull $100K+.

We've all been wondering and talking about when that will finally happen, and it will. I believe we are still 10+ years away from that point.
