A friend just bought a 1964 421 block, standard bore,. Faint code on the front. He was wondering if it’s an SR block. Either way, it’s a cool score. Pics below:

Real nice!
Dare I ask how much he payed for it?

grivera 04-28-2024 06:10 PM

He’s keeping that private for now…

Service Replacement wouldn't have an eun on it
What's the engine code for it?

He says it isn’t legible

Just note the ALL service replacement blocks came with rings and fitted Pistons .

Good to know- assembled?

Mr Twister 04-29-2024 07:39 AM

IMO a freshly shot peened used block. Nice find though.

Yes, the rings where on the pistons and the pistons where in the bore.

The front 2 four bolt caps are missing the outer bolts.

I never realized that the 64 motors did not use a full length windage tray and still had the bell housing reinforcement ribs from the 425 trophy motors.

1965 engines were the first to use the full length windage tray, the dipstick tube configuration changed completely as well.

Maybe you missed this thread on 1964 389 and 421 blocks:

And my 1964 421 HO build, both threads show the windage tray setup used on 1964 and earlier engines:

It’s been a loooong time, but I had a 389 425 T block for a while and just forgot about the windage tray deal.

for sure 64 block, has provision for block mounted starter.JMHO,worth the same as any std bore 3 1/4 main 4 bolt block UNLESS you need a SR or numbers matching code or vin to a car you might own.Nice clean block.Tom

Yep- saw that. Hopefully they are the caps original to the block

tom s 04-29-2024 08:55 PM

I think the correct term was "fitted block"no crank or rods.Tom

Sorry I should have been more detailed.
