I would like to make a cash offer on this car. What would you pay?

1971 Firebird Formula 455 HO, numbers matching, auto, AC car. Body color is
Rosewood.
The car is running, body color has been repainted cheap red, but body panels are solid. Little rust hole on the bottom of one fender, little rust around one rear quarter arch. Two inch hole on drivers side floor, two dime size holes in the trunk floor.
Dash is cracked, seats worn, steering wheel replaced, after market radio,and shifter. Everything is there just worn.
It do's have headers,air shocks, rallies are later year. I don't have pictures at this point to upload.
Over all a solid car that do's need a restoration. Not loving the color Rosewood. What would be a fair offer? Thanks, Todd

I wouldn't pay over 10k for it, but I bet someone will. If it's a car you REALLY want, then a couple thousand extra doesn't matter. That said, I would gladly pay double that for my old 72 f455 in the same condition.

I would say between $7,000 and $9,000. Plan on putting around 20k in to the car if you are going to do it correctly. If I had a bunch of pictures I could render a better guess. My 20k estimate assumes you will be doing much of the dis-assembly, prep and re-assembly. My 2 cents. Let us know what you do, and good luck.

Would be nice if the seller had posted the PHS. The photobucket link shows a Ram Air air cleaner. If original, that's a plus as a lot of the '71 455 HOs were non-RA cars, as I recall.

I would say value for a matching numbers 455 HO Formula that's together and not a complete rust bucket would be north of $10K.

I may be biased but it should be well over 10k.
Interesting RA air cleaner, screens, and boot retainer, but a 267 carb. It looks like it had a hood tach at one time.

from all the detail pics I would say it should go in the $12k-$14k range. The carb, intake, and ram air manifolds that are with it are a nice bonus over what most of these cars in need of restoration come with.

What about the paint color....I don't feel that Rosewood is a very desirable color? do you think that hurts the value of the car?

I think it would be a great car when done. Rosewood is indeed a different one to see. Looked at my 71 paint chip sheet to see. Kinda like a 72 Springfield Green car in the sense you like or not. But any HO is cool and even in the odd colors. They all don't have to be flashy hue I guess...... It would be the HO you take out for fine dining....

I say 12-14K also as "retail fair", not a bro deal.

I agree with Rick on price. The color won't hurt its value at all. Picture this car restored to as new with the Rosewood, white vinyl top, and white Deluxe interior. Beautiful. PLUS..... it is a real number matching 71 455HO Formula. Yes, it will take $30K+++ in addition to the original purchase price to get it really nice, but its current value and its future value says buy it now if your looking for an HO Formula!

I would think the parts total up close to the asking price, especially with the 7041267 carb and original ram air pan. It has some rust, but a real HO Formula is pretty rare.

The rear trunk drop offs do not appear to be attached to the quarter panels at the mounting edges any more. Looks like the flange areas rusted away.

Rosewood / Brown would not work for me. Originality and rarity is nice but if I was going to have $30k or more wrapped up in a car that I was going to keep, it would have to be a color that I really liked! IMO.

the auction ended early due to an "error in the listing" however when I look it up in complete auctions, it shows a buy it now price of $23,900 like it may have had that added at the auctions end? Am I interpreting that right??

Agreed - lift the hood & you've got 7-9k in parts alone.

Color wouldn't bother me at all - you can be sure you won't see another one at any show you go to!

I had a brown 78 TA that I thought looked very classy.

I would think anywhere up to about 15 would be ballpark if the expensive parts are present. Mark
