HPP magazine late
Did they drop back to bi-monthly publishing or did I miss an issue? I know I've missed the most recent one featuring a couple of early 2nd gen. Firebirds. Anyone else having problems with delivery?

Brian-
A few other guys were complaining about this too. |
I got an issue yesterday. Seems like a couple of early GTO's were on the cover?

Here is my rant on HPP
Man all I can say is the quality of the articles & photography really went down hill after the previous editor left, no real explaination of why the change in editors either. Tom I really miss you already! Glow in the dark hood birds, a center photo of 64 & 74 GTOs shot with the sun shadow in the foreground, a brown 64 gto built up like a Chip Foose street rod...yikes! Some of the tech articles are still good, but if I had not been collecting every issue since Thunder Am started in 1979 I might have let my subscription go by now. The mail man does a good job of shredding the thinner paper stock cover and the 1/2 gorilla glued on mailing labels are pretty sucky as well. I miss the old days when a car magazine was relevant and full of useful information, the internet has given every hack with a toolbox and a computer the ability to pose as an expert mechanic and spew bad advice to others. That is all thanks for putting up with me!:focus::rolleyes::D |
I received the January 2014 issue yesterday, it has a couple of 64 GTO's on the cover. Last month there was a Camaro on the cover.

HPP won't be around much longer in my opinion. I think Tom Demauro
saw the writing on the wall and jumped ship to Hemmings. I mean, how relevant is a Pontiac only magazine now that Pontiac Motor division doesn't exist. Go down to your local newstand and see if you can find the following titles: High Performance Studebaker, Hudson Illustrated, Javelins and Fast Amc's, High Performance Oldsmobile, Hot Rod Mercury. Couldn't find them? I rest my case. |
Well, I guess we may as well give up on the whole thing. The new editor has only been there a little while, give them some time to come up to speed. I still enjoy the magazine, not every article interests me but there's still plenty of others that do.

Received my Jan 2014 HPP and Hot Rod in the mail just like clockwork yesterday.
However, Earlier this week, I received a "Prices Are Going Up!" "Renew for Three Years and Save" (IIRC - 3 yr HPP for $49.95) scare snail mail. My 1st thoughts when reading them: Last time I received something like this was just before Pontiac and Muscle Car Enthusiast tanked... |
Got mine today.

HPP Magazine
My latest issue arrived yesterday in good shape, not unlike the previous month's issue that was missing 10 pages from the center of the mag. If it gets any thinner, 75 pages (vs. 155 pages in Hot Rod) they can mail it in an envelope! About half the articles are uninteresting to me, but it still has enough "good" ones to keep me sending in subscription money. The comment about it dying due to no more Pontiacs is a good one, but there are a couple really good Mopar-Dodge and Plymouth mags on the shelf. I would like to see more detailed event coverage and less "glow in the dark" type articles.

I have a box full of 10 year old HPP mags....anyone want them? $30 shipped in USA.

All magazines are getting thinner as people find the same information online, often for free.
I used to deal with industrial magazines as an advertiser. Over 60% of them have disappeared in the last 10 years. I know a popular one that was a large corporation, now it's a few guys working out of their homes. The internet is replacing printed media. |
I had a problem of missing 3 issues this year but after contacting the magazine and the post office, It seems to be worked out now. They sent out replacement issues. See my post here on PY.
I rec'd my Jan 2014 issue a couple days ago. I've been a subscriber for years. thepontiacman@yahoo.com |

got mine yesterday, there is a good article on the Jess Tyree 62 SD cat in this months issue, i'll subscribe as long as they keep it coming unless they go completely new generation.
|
The brown 64 on the cover has an LS engine in it. If they keep that up I'll let my subscription of 27 years expire. I received a subscription notice too, it was an increase, so I threw it in the trash!

I had a bad experience with their customer service while trying to straighten out a subscription renewal problem. So I cancelled the renewal and let the old one run out back in November. I miss HPP, but I'm too stubborn to go back because of what happened.

Is there an alternative publication to purchase other than HPP?
