71-74 vs 75-81 seat tracks

I was wondering if anyone has pictures of seat tracks so that I might be able to compare against some that I recently received in a parts deal.

I am guessing that I have two drivers side seat tracks, which I believe are 71-81;
And I believe I have one passenger side 75-81 track.

I do not know off hand if the 71-74 tracks interchange left to right.

Thanks in advance for any help which can be offered.

I can get you a pic of both installed on the seats. I am still needing the release cable for the ‘71-‘74 seat.

Here are the pics. The first pic is the ‘71-‘74 seat. Note that both tracks mount directly under the mounting bosses of the seat. Second pic is ‘75-‘81. Note that the track without the release lever mounts to the side of the mounting boss thus having brackets on the side of the track for mounting. The later seats have the tracks closer together.

thank you for the pictures.

This confirms my suspicions on two point regarding the seat tracks;
  1. I had thought that the 1971-1974 seat tracks interchange for either side.
  2. I had thought that the 1971-1974 seat track was the exact same setup used on the drivers side for 1975-1981.
  3. I had thought that the 1975-1981 passenger seat tracks were unique.

If I can push my luck just a little bit, are you saying that my thinking that the 1974 & 1975 drivers side seat tracks are the same is wrong?

I do remember the cat hump affected the passenger floor, but don't recall any changes to the drivers floor.
I also know the seats all interchange (I had nice '79 black velour seats in my car for one summer).

I have two of the type in your first picture, and one of the type in your second picture.

The pic I sent you of the ‘75-‘81 seat is the bottom of the drivers seat. Both seats have the narrower track set up for the ‘75 on up seats. So, to answer that question, no, the ‘74/‘75 drivers side tracks won’t interchange as a set. The track with the release lever for both seats may be the same for ‘71-‘81, but the other track is definitely not interchangeable with the early tracks.

hmm.

ok, thank you VERY much for sharing this all, and clarifying it for me.

Do you know if the tracks are side specific?

I am guessing that the 75-81 tracks are side specific.

I don’t think they are side specific. A look at the catalogue for the repo tracks would tell you.

thank you very much again!!

Yes, they are specific. The floor doesn't match one side to the other, different heights throughout and side to side. The seats don't even sit flat on level ground with one corner in the air.

/\ thanks for the correction.

I am guessing you are speaking about the 1975-1981 tracks, as I found those in the Ames catalog, and sure enough there are left and right listings - wowzers they are not cheap.

I was surprised to see that the 1971-1974 seat tracks are not reproduced - I am fairly confident that those are not side specific;
I know that the 1970 seat tracks are side specific because the release is on the side, not the front.
