Which Non-Pontiac project would you choose?

I’ve had two potential projects come up that are about the same scope of work, price, etc.

I thought it might be fun to see which one people would choose and why??

Project 1: Last week a friend mentioned he wants to sell his 92 Bronco. Full size Bronco, unmolested, all original and absolutely no rust. Extremely complete- 351, 4wd, XLT trim and the interior is supposed to be very presentable. Original paint except hood, fender and door. 3rd owner- 1 family owned it. Has 200,000 miles- Runs, drives and stops but won’t rev beyond 2000 rpm. Blue with gray interior (would prefer red or black paint) but these are going up in value extremely fast and are fun. Full interior and the ability to take the top off add an extra cool factor. Kids would like this one. Most likely $4500

Project 2: At my dads house this week and am cleaning cars, working on cars etc.. His 95 Impala SS was leaking transmission fluid and coolant. Turns out the radiator plastic tank broke at the transmission line. I replaced the radiator and hoses- all good. I looked the car over and it’s in amazing shape for 220,000 miles. The car has one rust spot in the lower quarter and that’s it. I buffed the car out and it’s very presentable, the interior shows wear in the drivers seat but that’s it. We are the second owner of this car. It runs, drives and stops as it should. Most likely $1700 to ship.

Which would be in your driveway?

Are you kidden, I'd want to own my dads car, but I'd buy that Bronco,
do a lil summin summin to it, and make enough to pay for the SS.

I’m lucky enough to have several of my dads cars- even the 70 LeMans he sold his 68 bird for when he found out he was having a second kid (me)!

I will say that Impala needs nothing but a little paint work. The Bronco needs more but that’s kind of the fun part

Well if that's the way it is, go for the Bronco, you can't miss. It's going to appreciate far beyond the SS.

Sounds like you need summin to do anyway, and like you said, the kids would have a blast. Simple.

Still jus me,
Frank

I've had 90's Broncos in the shop, and I would go for the Impala without a doubt.

Miss my Old broncos. That would be my choice.

Impala for me also. The Bronco bubble has to burst at some point and even then, 90s would not be my preference.

Impala, here too.....unless you have some intended use for the bronco, at 12 MPG

The value of the Impala will rise faster than the value of the Bronco.

Yes, you have some of your dad's old cars. Why not have another one...

I love those Bronco's. Had a 96 I regret selling. Great woods and mountain rig.

Impala SS.. always wanted on..

1965gp 06-19-2021 03:37 PM

I’m still going to go look at the Bronco but the SS just kind of feels right. Now most won’t like it but I will probably go with a 90’s day 2 approach on it. 20” wheels, big stereo and neon underneath it. I was in college in the 90’s and these cars were quite the rage then.

SS hands down.

3fastgtos 06-19-2021 05:01 PM

Early ‘70s Datsun 1200 fastback with a Pontiac motor and a 5-speed.

72projectbird 06-19-2021 05:16 PM

Both are very cool.

I have a 94 F350. Definitely not a Bronco, but the same body style. They're excellent trucks, built extremely well.

I always liked those Impala SS'. They're big comfy cars, and look great. Throw some long tubes and a good exhaust on it, tint it out and you got a sick cruiser.

It's a tough call.

Stuart 06-19-2021 05:58 PM

The Impala, no question about it. There's a lot of suspension and drivetrain modifications that can be done to them that would make it a lot of fun, sort of like a latter-day Grand Prix. ;)

1965gp 06-19-2021 06:18 PM

Oddly enough the bench seat is one of the coolest parts of the SS. Everything today has buckets. Used to be a big deal, now the bench seat is cooler.

Agree on the exhaust. Long tubes, gut the cats (it’s a 95- OBD 1) and a cold air intake makes it quite the car. It already has a Hotchkis engine bay brace (it’s massive).

1965gp 06-19-2021 06:20 PM

But the Bronco has its own cool factor. Beach cruiser, top off, big stereo, lifted…. Ugghhhh it’s a hard choice.

Financially the SS is the better deal. It only cost shipping, but the Bronco could be a badass Mall Crawler

Non-Pontiac Project chosen: 1995 Lincoln Town Car

Class III hitch, brake controller, Cassettes and sweet stereo, all options are Standard. Drives on 87 tows on 87 and sometimes 89. 24 hwy. 14.5 towing

Oh, i got 2 of same year, color and condition. Might put the Spare 455 in and graft the 4R70W to it. Graft the Fuel Inj, and Quad coils too. Adapt to the factory dual exhaust! Would need to find an 8.8" posi unit.

If THAT happens, the GTO badges would go onto the interior Door skins, Lower Fenders, and Quarters. Maybe "455" on the front Rockers.

I'm waiting on this build!!!
