Vintage Pontiac Land Speed Car...

Saw a link for this pop up on FB- had to follow to see.

Pretty cool vintage racer with a turbo Tempest 4- first campaigned in 1962. Ran a best of 224 mph. Current price is CHEAP!

Lots of pictures in the link.

Neat.

Speedo and gauges are neat.

Round port head into cast log exhaust (compact but not so neat) for Turbo.

That is way, way cool. And dirt cheap, to boot. Thanks for the post!

Steve Barcak 07-29-2016 10:30 PM

'cheap' is relative I guess. After all, it is an auction. Yesterday it was $1,500. Now it is $4,600 and still has 6 days left. Curious as to how high it will bid. Any guesses? I have no idea what it is worth. The way the motor is on its side, it does not appear that a v8 will fit easily.

Steve Barcak 07-30-2016 01:26 AM

few hours later, up to $6,200

It's a cool find for sure. Pontiac history from out of the woodwork. With 5 days left, it may fetch more than "cheap" as Steve mentioned. Cool at any price because it has Pontiac power.

This make no difference to the history or value, but it looks like the Axles
or at least the Hubs were changed since that pic on the Salt Flats. Those
racer moon caps would not work on the Hubs shown on the later pics. Could
just be the pics tricking the old eyes, but that thing is cool either way.

Dean Moon did offer "deeper" discs way back when.

The Arnold Birner mentioned also had a hand in designing the DOHC setup on a Tempest-4 in the Baldwin & Sommerfeld lakester.

It is far out! I mean, I dig it! Bichin!

Very Cool Car. Notice he elevated the front Engine cover mounts. This gave him that
1 inch opening in the front almost certainly to cool the Engine, but limiting the effect on
streamlining. Love those little things done by the guys in the old days.
