Running rich

Just put a completely rebuilt tripower unit on my 65 GTO. Car seems to be running very rich with blue smoke out the exhaust. Do I have a float setting problem? Any ideas appreciated.

Blue smoke is generally oil smoke. What is your fuel pressure? It should not be over 6 psig. Do you see any signs of fuel leaking from the float bowl?

No fuel leaking from carbs that I can see, but I did just change oil and started using Valvoline VR1. The oil change and carb change happened at the same time before the first test run.

Is it running rich at idle, under load, WOT, all the time? Is the choke butterfly working ok?

Is the jetting and idle mixture set properly for the engine?

You can have an O2 sensor installed and know for sure what your AFR is and go from there.

We have had some family health issues and I have had no opportunity to get back on the car since the initial run after the changes I mentioned. Fellows, I appreciate the opinions and suggestions and will follow up soon, I hope.

Blue smoke may be residual oil in the exhaust system if you've recently done engine work. It takes quite a lot of running time to eliminate that.

How does the engine idle? Pull a plug and see if it's black.

The dummy, me, left a set of old air filters on the unit. I think they were some what clogged up. Put new filters on, and it seems to be doing much better.
