My New 1971 455 HO Formula
I'm still trying to post some pictures but they are still too big. Can someone help me downsize them?
Thanks, Dennis |

I'm with Chris, looks great just the way it is.

I'm with Chris and Doug. Leave it like it is, put the original motor on the shelf, stick a big HP 455 in it and have some fun. There's enough parts floating around that you can build a stinking hot motor that looks all original and is correct except for the VIN. Wet sand and buff the paint and strip the undercoating and you're all set.
The big money down the road won't be for a car with a color change interior and a vinyl top delete. Spend less money and have more fun is my vote. I cant wait to see it in August no matter what direction you go. If we could just get Brewster off his ass I might bring the Black Car back and we could have a 455 HO Formula reunion... Congrats Dennis. I envy your excitement. |
Thanks guys for the comments regarding keeping the roof. Keeping it on will keep a bit unique. It really doesn't look so bad since the contrast is very low. The rubber roof stays on!
Yep. its the one from the Toronto area that was discussed briefly in the 455 HO Thread back in October. A nice surprise is that the hood scoops were cut open (too nicely) and the grilles installed, so I might just have to spring for a RA conversion. It has the original 4-core FP heavy duty manual trans radiator with tags still. All the bolts underneath look like they will come out easily, absolutely not rust or corrosion. The sheet metal, however, is a different story with minor issues in a few places, but nothing major thankfully. Bob, I'm already looking at another 455 motor to do the Pure Stock build to. But that will be for next year. I'll beat on this one once we get the new cam & lifters installed (Summit 2801). The car just needs to be fluffed and buffed. I like the idea of a Formula Reunion. It will be driven to the TA Nats. Brew's motor is almost done and ready to hit the dyno to she what that bad mutha does. Does anyone know if the dual snorkel air cleaner is a repop? It really looks too nice and unblemished, especially at the snorkel openings to be original. Maybe not, I'm not sure. I included a picture of the Thremactor raised lettering that I believe is different between the original and repop units. |

That's a sweet Formula! Looks great with those big honeys...

When/where are the TA Nats? Might have to join up, that is if you guys don't mind something non stock. ;)

Chris its at the end of August in Dayton Ohio. If you like to cut up around a bunch of f-bodies smoking cigars, drinking, talking smart... you'll love this place.
I have a room booked and will bring my Formula even if its a trailed project car. |
