I think it will be fine. I have reason to believe that the engine is a jasper rebuilt. It runs great sounds great, it doesn't bog down when you hit the accelerator. I do wish I could do a compression test on it though.

Didn't know it was a spreadbore design and the guy with the parts didn't realize either. The other is also cast iron. The price differ. in them is because one is in better shape, I guess

first you need to see if you have the heads and cam duration to support the extra gas and flow...otherwise it will bog bad witha 4 barrel. Ok a Q-jet is a spread bore carb. A spread bore carb is nothing more than 4 barrel that has two "barrels" the secondaries larger than the primaries. Two diff size holes. A stock q-jet manifold is a spreadbore manifold, just stock. It is made of cast iron and is heavy. It flows enuff to feed a pretty stout 455 as well. What is the other manifold made of? The only reason I can see using the non-stock manifild...at this point...would be weight savings...

Right. I wasn't thinking. what do you suggest? A rochester 4 barrel on a spreadbore intake, or a rochester 4 barrel Q-JET on a Q-Jet intake manifold? The guy I'm looking to buy from wants the same price for both. I a leaning torwards the Q-JET.

It's the origonal, which I think is also a spreadbore. The guy didn't tell me when I bought the car. It is a 2barrel intake/carb.

I am currently looking at a rochester 4 barrel carb. on ebay. Also the intake manifold to go with it. I believe the intake manifold is a spreadbore.

Whoa! I don't want to pay that much for an aircleaner. Maybe I will find a factory intake and rochester carb. It's pretty easy to rebuild carbs. Plus it would be put my car closer to factory. I have a pontiac 350 which makes around 230 240 hp. For some reason the 350 makes a bit more power than a pontiac 400. They made around 200 hp. I don't understand how that happened.
